My Attic - Construction

I covered my fireplace with 'stones' made from Paperclay. I textured the interior walls to give them a subtle stucco effect by putting paint on the walls and pressing pieces of torn Kleenex(tm) into the paint. I painted a couple more coats of paint over the surface after it had dried. The floor is made of strips of 1/32" thick basswood. I used "Weather It" (available from Model Railroad people) to age the floor boards and the woodwork in this project.

Since my experiment with making stones out of the fireplace worked so well with the fireplace, I decided to cover the exterior with paperclay 'stones' too. The 'slate' roof is made from cardstock which I painted various shades of grey. The silver circle on the back of the structure is a jack for a transformer. I decided to wire this project, since the 'stairwell' was a perfect place to hide the wire connections. The light on the fireplace mantle is a permanent part of the fireplace.

Onward to decorating...
